Al went to Texas A&M University & after graduation became a school teacher. In his 37 years as an educator, Al taught marketing along with being a tennis & football coach. He taught in the San Antonio area at Fox Tech & John Marshall High Schools. His qualifying ancestor was William McCutcheon who came with his family to Texas in 1832. William was involved in the Runaway Scrap & fought at San Jacinto. After the revolution he became a Texas Ranger from 1836-37. Al joined The Sons of The Republic Of Texas in 1995, becoming part of the Travis Chapter where he served as Sgt-at-Arms, Treasurer, & 1st Vice President. During his tenor at the Travis Chapter Al started the " Essay & Poster " Contest, a scholarship program for local middle school 7th graders. As of this date over 21,000 students have participated in the contest. When the Alamo Chapter was formed in 2008, Al became it's first President. Al McCutcheon is currently The Administrator For Educational Programs for the Alamo Chapter where he continues his work with local middle schools, sharing his love for all things Texas History.

Richard (Dick) Weitzel, II was born in El Campo, Texas on July 2, 1941 & graduated from Victoria High School in 1959. Dick attended The University of Texas (UT) & was a member of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. Dick met his wife of 51 years Carol Ann, while studying at UT. Mr. Weitzel graduated in 1964, Carol Ann in 1966 & after soon married.
Dick is President of his company, SSTS, Inc. - a “Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business” as a result of the disabilities (70% disabled) incurred during military service. SSTS focusses on Information Technology; and, bids and wins Government Contracts with many Federal Agencies. For example, installed the Security System at 23 Embassies / Consulates, worldwide, for the Department of State; and recently installed the security system at the Texas Army National Guard in San Antonio.
Mr. Weitzel is a proud ancestor of Dilue Rose Harris, whose family came to Texas in 1833. Mrs. Harris was the first woman to cross the San Jacinto Battlefield after the surrender of Santa Anna. Dick’s love of Texas history has made him very active with The Alamo Chapter along with other organizations across the state. He was President from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2016, a two-year tour of duty where he was the lead for the highly successful “Flag-400“ donation drive. Currently Dick is the “Marketing Officer” for the Alamo Chapter & District Representative for the “Heart of Texas” District, serving the following Chapters: Fredericksburg, Gonzales, New Braunfels, and the two SRT Chapters in San Antonio. Dick is also Immediate Past President of the DeWitt County Chapter 1029 of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), having served as President from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2016. He is also an “Admiral” in the Texas Navy – effective in March, 2017.
Dick and Carol Ann have three children & nine grandchildren. Richard their oldest, graduated from “National War College” at Fort McNair, and is now assigned to a Joint Command, NORAD, in Colorado Springs, as a Navy Captain. Laura their second child is married to Chris, a Software Manager for Hewlett Packard. Robert their third child is a lawyer & graduated from SMU Law School.

Ken’s educational achievements include BBA The University of Texas, MBA St. Mary’s University and Command, General Staff College U.S. Army and numerous other military and management courses. His Military service includes three years Army activity active duty including combat service in Vietnam as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division and duty with the 82nd Airborne Division. Ken continued his servicein the Texas Army National Guard for an additional 35 years; retiring in 1998 at the rank of Colonel. His military decorations include: The Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, parachutist badge, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (5), Texas Distinguished Service Medal and numerous other awards. He was further honored in 2014 being elected as a “Distiguished Member” of the 327th Parachute Infantry Regiment. In Civilian life he was employed by United Services Automobile Association (USAA) for 30 years retiring in 2003 as an Executive Director. During this time he taught “Introduction to Management” at San Antonio College (Evening Division) He married the former Trudy McKee in 1969 and together they raised two sons. His commitment to the Sons of The Republic of Texas include Treasurer, Travis Chapter, Founding Member of the Alamo Chapter, Vice president, President and Registrar of the Alamo Chapter. He has served as District Representative, Treasurer General and Secretary General of the Sons of the Republic of Texas. He has served 10 years as President of the DuVal Family Association and is the President of the Board of Directors of the Northwest Crossing Homeowners Association.

Education & organizations includes Graduate of the University of Texas (Austin) BBA and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. George has been employed by Merrill Lynch, Republic of Texas Savings & Loan, & since 1980 he has been a commercial real estate broker. Having a love of the outdoors, George oversees a small ranch in Frio county near Bigfoot. George's qualifying ancestor was Thomas Lowery, originally born in Georgia 1807, he migrated to St. Augustine, TX in the mid 1830's. Another qualifying ancestor Benjamin Burris, was born in Ohio in 1818. He arrived in Galveston circa 1839 with wife and children. Before becoming Chapter President, George was a very energetic & innovative 1st Vice President, bringing a greater importance to the role in the Chapter. Many of the procedures & protocols brought into practice during his term are still used today.

His father & grandfather, both named George, were also born in the Alamo City. Their namesake, Sgt. George Chall, Jason’s great-grandfather, came to Texas in the early 1900s, from Michigan. George’s cavalry unit had been assigned the task of finding & apprehending the bandit Pancho Villa, who had been raiding Texas’s border towns. Sgt. Chall went on later to fight in the Philippine–American War & World War I. His distinguished service in those two conflicts earned him a chest full of medals & his son a guaranteed, uncontested ride to West Point when he came of age, courtesy of the US Army.
Jason attended John Marshall High School & later the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a double-major; Advertising & History. After almost a decade working at The Express-News, Jason took a job as a pharmaceutical representative with Pfizer Inc. & has been working with that same company for the past 14 years.
Jason is a 6th Generation Texas, he can trace his ancestry back to the early 1820s with a 5th great-grandfather, John “Padre” McCoy from the Dewitt Colony & another, William Gates, from the Austin 300 original families. He is very proud of the McCoy clan which has the honor of having an Alamo Defender & Immortal 32 ranger, Jesse McCoy (Jason’s 4th great grand-uncle), amongst their legacy. Jason’s family history also includes a confederate captain (John Morgan Teague), that was killed at Gettysburg during the Civil War; an officer ( Capt. William Stone), who fought at The Battle of New Orleans; (John Leyendecker), a veteran of The Battle of Waterloo & 6 captains (Enoch Davis, James Clark, John Pyeatt, Elijah Teague Jr, William Roberts, Benjamin Hardin III ) that served during the American Revolution.

Mission

The mission of the Alamo Chapter is to:

Support the Purpose, Mission and Goals of the SRT.

Increase public awareness about items of historical significance associated with Texas in the local area.

Support projects that advance the education of local youth in Texas history.

Preserve historical artifacts and increase public awareness of their importance.

When appropriate assist and collaborate with other like minded organizations in activities that support the increase of knowledge regarding Texas and its history.

Membership

Membership Requirements:

Any male, eighteen years or older who is a direct lineal descendant of a person who was a resident of the Republic of Texas prior to February 19, 1846, is eligible for membership. Submission of the appropriate SRT membership application, with chapter endorsements, payment of the required fee and approval of the Historian General, Secretary General and President General is required.

Types of Membership:

JUNIOR (under 18): Junior members pay no annual dues, and may not vote or hold office. At age 18 they are automatically upgraded to regular membership. Applicants for junior membership pay a, one time, non-refundable processing fee of $30.

REGULAR (18 or over): Dues for regular members are $75 a year. Applicants for regular membership pay a non-refundable processing fee of $50. Their dues are waived for the current year.

LIFE: Life membership, which exempts members from payment of annual dues, is open to a member of any age for a fee based on their age. Junior members shall become Life Members upon payment of $1,000.00. Regular members between the ages of 18 and 40 years shall become Life Members upon payment of $750.00. Regular members over the age of 40 years shall become Life Members upon payment of $600.00. New Applicants for life membership pay this fee in addition to a processing fee of $50.

SENIOR: A Regular Member, who has reached the age of seventy (70) years, who is current with his dues, and has been a Member for ten (10) years, may apply in writing to the Administrative Assistant for Senior membership. The Executive Committee, at their sole discretion is hereby authorized and empowered to grant the Senior membership. Senior Members are not required to pay annual dues.

HONORARY: Honorary membership is granted to a maximum of three people a year by vote of the general membership. Honorary members, who cannot be eligible by reason of lineal descent, are chosen for having rendered outstanding service to Texas by furthering the aims and goals of the Sons of the Republic of Texas.

POSTHUMOUS (deceased): Application for posthumous membership may be made on behalf of any deceased person who would otherwise be eligible for membership, so long as his death occurred after the founding of the SRT (March 30,1922). The $100 fee includes processing and a bronze grave marker.

Miscellaneous: All donations in excess of the annual dues are tax deductible. Dues are payable in advance for each calendar year. A member can vote and hold office in one chapter, but can hold dual membership in other chapters on payment of $6.00 for each additional chapter. A member may transfer his membership affiliation to another chapter, but must request in writing. A processing fee of $30 must be paid for each supplemental ancestor that the SRT acknowledges. Annual dues shall be assessed for the calendar year, January 1 to December 31, and shall be payable in advance to the Organization. Dues will be considered delinquent ninety (90) days after January 1 of the then current year, and after dues become delinquent the member may be suspended for non-payment of dues at the direction of the Executive Committee. A prior notice of delinquent members will be sent to the chapter prior to the annual meeting.

Renewal: After a membership suspension, a member may be dropped from active membership and denied all benefits arising there from. A member, suspended for non-payment of dues may be reinstated by paying dues for the year’s which his reinstatement is effective and a fifty $50.00 reinstatement fee.
