The Distinguished Service Award Medallion is the highest award achievable by an Alamo Chapter member. It is granted to members of The Alamo Chapter who have exhibited a continuous presence and unwavering level of participation over a consecutive four year span. Selection is based on: members being visible at seventy-five percent of selected Chapter functions, leadership skills defined by their continual involvement as officers, chairmen, and their activism with all aspects of the Alamo Chapter at its many levels. The Distinguished Service Award Medallion is open to any current Alamo Chapter officer or chairman who has had at least four years of service in The Sons of The Republic of Texas and has met DSA criteria during those four years. When first awarded the Distinguished Service Award the recipient receives a medallion with a red ribbon. Every subsequent year of recognition, the member will be given a gold star with an engraved year to be placed on the ribbon. After being awarded the DSA, if the recipient fails to achieve the defined criteria in the following year or any other year after, they will have to start over and will not receive a gold star until four uninterrupted years following the correct criteria are completed. Once an Alamo Chapter member is awarded a Distinguished Service Award Medallion they become illegible to receive any other awards from the Chapter. (e.g. President’s Recognition Star, Alamo Chapter Award, or Alamo Chapter Award “1st Class” ). Nomination for the award is decided by vote from the Distinguished Service Award Committee which is composed of past recipients in good standing.
